The Horizon Program of the European Union awarded an ERC grant to AIM investigators part of an international consortium lead by AIM’s director, Hugo Aerts. This collaboration with Maastricht University in the Netherlands, investigates AI and deep learning technologies in oncology. By using AI to analyze radiographic properties on medical imaging data of tumors, it is possible to qualify internal growth patterns of a cancer lesion. The resulting imaging biomarkers can help physicians with difficult clinical decisions.

Successful completion of this proposal will demonstrate the potential of imaging biomarkers to help physicians in selecting patients who will likely benefit from cancer therapies, while sparing these expensive and potentially toxic treatments for patients who don't.
