Christian Guthier PhD is a senior resident at the Harvard Medical Physics Residency Program. His research interests focus is in treatment planning in radiation oncology.  This includes inverse optimization, mathematical modelling, and development as deployment of AI-based tools to improve the standard of care in radiation therapy. He has developed several algorithms and software tools to allow automated treatment planning in brachytherapy. During his senior year of residency, he is involved in translational AI research, which includes data extraction and processing to support clinical trials.

Dr. Guthier earned his Master and PhD in Physics from the Heidelberg University, Germany. Before his residency he completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Dana-Farber/Brigham and Women’s Cancer Center at Harvard Medical School. For his research in treatment planning he received awards from the American Association of Physicist in Medicine, the American Brachytherapy Society, and the German Society of Radiation Oncology.
