AI can predict distant metastasis

In the Journal of Thoracic Oncology, AIM investigators developed and independently validated a model to predict the individualized risk of distant metastases in patients with early-stage non-small cell lung cancer. Distant metastases are the primary driver of mortality for patients with early-stage non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) receiving stereotactic body radiation therapy, yet the patient-level risk is difficult to predict. This is an example of a practical approach to predict the risk of distant metastasis in NSCLC patients to support treatment decisions and personalized medicine.
