Tafadzwa Chaunzwa

Research Scholar

 

Tafadzwa Chaunzwa MD is a resident physician in the Harvard Radiation Oncology Program, and a research scholar in the Artificial Intelligence in Medicine (AIM) Program at Harvard/BWH. He received a bachelor of engineering degree from Duke University where he studied biomedical engineering with a concentration in medical imaging, and mathematics. He completed his medical school education at Yale University, where he also earned a Master's degree in the biomedical data sciences. Between college and medical school he worked in management consulting for the medical devices industry and life sciences venture capital. 

Dr. Chaunzwa’s research interests are in the areas of oncology, imaging, and the cancer data sciences, with a focus on leveraging machine learning and other advanced analytics tools to build robust models for quantitative image analysis and decision support in clinical oncology. He has been awarded numerous research fellowships and awards including the Howard Hughes Medical Institute Medical Research Fellowship completed at Dana-Farber/Brigham and Women's Cancer Center under the supervision of Dr. Aerts and Dr. Mak, and the Pratt Engineering Research Fellowship where he helped development the first volumetric shear wave tracking capability in acoustic radiation force impulse imaging. He was also elected a Farr Scholar for excellence in research and creativity in the pursuit of knowledge at Yale, and has presented his work at several national and international scientific conferences including at ASTRO, ASCO, IASLC, AAPM, AAP/ASCI/APSA, as well as symposia on medical innovation and data science in biomedical research.
